Successfully delivered engagements

For a company our size to work with some of the biggest organisations in the UK takes an exceptional associate network. Ours has been developed and curated over the last 20 years, and many of our associates have worked with us on more than five separate engagements.

Our associates represent the top 2% of interim architects available in the UK today. What makes them stand out is detailed here.

How we select the right associate architect for your engagement is set out below.

Phase one · Day one

Define who you really need

The 7 steps to ensure sourcing starts and finishes at the right place.

The need
Step 1 of 7

The need

Most job roles start with a title (we need a …) and add a series of responsibilities to match, or not. This leads sourcing to start in the wrong place. Ben uses the last 11 years of writing SoWs to ensure that the job spec is based around what the architect needs to deliver and be measured against, and then adds a job title to that.

Step 2 of 7

Yourself

Who are you? What are your strengths? Where do you see a gap in your skill set? Do you want someone similar to yourself? Understanding all of these is crucial, as you will be working with this person day to day.

Step 3 of 7

The benchmark

Who do you consider your best-performing architect? What of their characteristics and approach style would you like to see in your next hire? It is generally not possible to match, but this helps serve as a good guide.

Step 4 of 7

The stakeholders

Architecture is an influencing role. If an architect cannot build relationships and influence their key stakeholders, they cannot do their job. We look to speak to one or two of your key stakeholders and understand what they require from the role.

Step 5 of 7

Pace and maturity

Every organisation is very different. An architect who performs very well in a very structured environment is likely to struggle in, say, a fast-paced start-up. So understanding your culture is essential to knowing what good looks like.

Step 6 of 7

Communication style

Architecture is a sales role. Architects have to be good communicators to be effective. What good looks like will depend greatly on a combination of pace, your stakeholders, and yourself.

Step 7 of 7

The role

Once we have established all of the above factors, we will send a revised job description and interview questions back to you for approval. Once complete, we can begin sourcing.

Phase two · Timing to confirm

Active sourcing

Three steps. Placeholder copy — to follow.

Step 1 of 3

Who do we know?

Twenty years in the industry means we never look at the database first. We think about who has worked with us before and who would fit.

Step 2 of 3

Who do they know?

If they are not available, our associates can always recommend someone who is.

Step 3 of 3

Our extended network

If that does not work, we have cultivated a high-quality CRM that we can turn to.

Phase three · Throughout the engagement

Protect your investment

Four steps. Placeholder copy — to follow.

Step 1 of 4

Governance meetings

We attend various meetings, particularly in the early stages of the contract, to make sure work is being delivered to the required standard.

Step 2 of 4

Only sign off on work you are happy with

We will ensure that no invoice is ever sent if you are unhappy with the work.

Step 3 of 4

Access to internal IP

Free access to our strategic roadmap tool, Konexis, and other visual artefacts to improve your messaging.

Step 4 of 4

Plan B

We also make sure we know of at least one architecture contractor or associate who can take over.
