We broke this question down into three parts:
- What is ERP generically? Starting from widely accepted cross-industry definitions, Konvergent were able to highlight the specific purpose and functional coverage of an ERP system. This provided a common reference point to quickly and easily understand the potential scope of an ERP solution.
- What is ERP to our Business? Using a Business Capability viewpoint, we visualised which of the client’s business areas were in the scope of the ERP strategy and their respective ERP Solutions & modules, including those capabilities not within the ERP strategy scope.
- What is ERP to Me? We designed a series of interactive visuals with navigation based on Line of Business, Market and key personas such as CFO, Head of HR or Resource Manager to illustrate functional coverage by geography and Role, again using Business Capabilities as the standard reference point.
It was essential to set out the Business Motivation clearly and need for a strategic solution set, showing the connection from business drivers, to ERP solutions and through to the business outcomes they enable, along with the capability and functional fit for each market.
Konvergent were also able to illustrate a simple decision tree to show the rationale for the chosen strategic solutions and where there was scope to source local solutions for specific capabilities, enabling a level of flexibility for business decision-makers to find the right-sized solutions for their differentiators, within agreed standards
The client needed a unified view of the global strategy and roadmap to align business leaders to a single, over-arching plan. By removing confusion around the Why and What and providing a clear understanding of what the ERP strategy would mean to each business area, we moved the conversation onto the art of the possible.
Starting with what is feasible and where trade-offs needed to be made along a 3-5 year timeline, Konvergent helped the client to clear a path for the adoption of a rationalised, strategic ERP toolset based on a clear line of sight to strategic business outcomes
