After years of unchecked growth and integration within internal finance, BT had a problem. The company had several siloed finance systems that no longer aligned with the different functional areas of the business.
In particular, there was no centralised reference data architecture, governance or data quality – leading to significant issues with reporting.
• An architecture roadmap to move the IFRS15 Data Warehouse into the cloud
• An assessment of integration points and patterns with a delivery roadmap
• A customer Journey
• An architecture blueprint focusing on the redevelopment of business processes to significantly reduce the reliance on shadow IT. Konvergent helped Bupa replace several legacy policy administration systems in EMEA and America with a brand new consolidated platform. It was all part of a larger Cloud Transformation Strategy.
• The data and BI strategy and roadmap – advising on best practice, decommissioning strategy, cost-saving and methodology
• End-to-end data warehouse architecture and model.
• A global application layer to interface with the customers, partners and providers
• A 13.4% improvement in operational processes and customer experience.
As a result of all this, Bupa reduced implementation cost and risk while also adhering to GDPR. This educational organisation engaged Konvergent’s architects to help them complete an evaluation and assessment of their Enterprise Architecture Maturity and Architecture-as-a-Service.
After baselining the architecture maturity assessment, we created and rolled out all of the following across C&G: an AFD (Architectural Functions Definition), ADD (Architecture Definitions Document), LLD (Low Level Design), HLD (High Level Design)
and a Communication Strategy.
The AMA (Architecture Maturity Assessment) was customised around process, documentation, business alignment, engagement, adoption, communication, security, governance/control and investment management. Working for Close Brothers enabled Konvergent to demonstrate diverse solution architecture capability, along with an in-depth understanding of treasury functions.
They needed help driving their technology-enabled strategy and solutions. The organisation also needed guidance through the complex task of application suitability and governance assurance within the treasury domain.
They wanted us to deliver a new system that fitted an exact and complex set of technical architecture requirements, options analysis documents and HLDs. “Working with Konvergent in this way demonstrated how effective an AaaS model could be if it was rolled out across the whole business.”
Head of Architecture – Close Brothers Konvergent began working with Arup Technology in 2016. Since then, we have become a critical strategic supplier, building strong and enduring relationships along the way.
As a trusted partner, we provide expertise in many of the digital workstreams that are transforming the group. We also pioneered the use of an AaaS approach.
Currently, we are working on Arup's enterprise cloud strategy and their migration to Azure and Office 365. We are also providing ongoing support to their cloud migration programme by producing HLDs and options analysis.
The people systems transformation remains one of the largest projects currently in flight at Arup.
“Not only has Konvergent provided mission-critical strategic and programme experience, but they have also helped us mature our strategy and architecture capability as a pleasant and unexpected value add.”
Dai David CTO, Arup The travel operating company GoAhead owns multiple global rail and bus franchises. They were expanding into Ireland following the successful bid for a new bus route.
However, their existing network architecture was not fit for purpose. The company tasked Konvergent with providing a series of HLD and low-level network architecture designs relating to their existing portfolio. They also needed support on a range of tactical and strategic projects relating to their expansion.
Working under the AaaS model, Konvergent provided GoAhead with ongoing support for nine months. With our help, they delivered on their regulatory objectives for the new franchise and significantly uplifted their capability in existing areas. Following their successful joint venture for the HS2 Rail link, it was only natural that Keir would continue their relationship with Konvergent. As a result, we continue to provide architecture support for the duration of the UK's largest infrastructure project.
Konvergent was originally tasked with providing supplier engagement, solution options and costing documents for the HS2 SMART construction. This has expanded to include:
• multiple ITT, vendor selection and assurance
• the design of repeatable integration architecture templates with ongoing production of HLDs
• option analysis documents.
As the programme has progressed, the reliance on the expertise and knowledge of the Konvergent team has increased with an ongoing AaaS model providing the plug in support required As a part franchised and part centrally-operated company, Starbucks was facing challenges due to variations in its architecture implementation. The resulting inconsistency of capabilities was causing ongoing problems for their Director of IT.
Konvergent was charged with providing a templated HLD architecture structure across networks, applications and infrastructure. This was based on current best practices that could be implemented by franchisees, both large and small.

One of the world's largest LLPs contacted Konvergent about the underperformance of their global document management system, which was due to go live within a few months. They urgently required an architecture assessment unbiased to any vendor – one of the main reasons they chose Konvergent.
We quickly put together a specialist team of architects to undertake the assessment. Within a matter of weeks, they identified the key problem areas and suggested an improved testing strategy. The review provided valuable insight into the system’s performance and helped dramatically improve the global rollout to fee earners.
“Konvergent helped validate and communicate what we had suspected but were unable to prove ourselves.”
Lead Application Architect Channel 4 was working on a programme to replace a key application. In a story familiar to many organisations, the project had dragged on far too long. Many of the proposed solutions had already seen multiple incarnations.
The broadcaster was determined that this latest version should be the one that landed. So, Konvergent were given a critical role in the development of software assurance and project assurance along with the governance of third-party developers.
The work that Konvergent did to put in all the processes and templates for the software assurance was critical to the eventual replacement of the system going live.
